Outdoor First Aid (16 Hours)

Prepare yourself for real-world emergencies in remote and outdoor environments. The Level 3 Outdoor First Aid course is a comprehensive, hands-on 16-hour program designed for individuals and outdoor leaders operating where immediate medical assistance may not be readily available. This course is recommended for anyone who works, volunteers, or enjoys activities in the outdoors, including Outdoor activity instructors, mountain leaders, coaches Forest school leaders, outdoor educators, Sports coaches, field researchers, Outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers. This course equips you with the knowledge and confidence to handle medical emergencies in challenging, hazard-prone environments.

 

The course covers:

  • Managing an incident safely in outdoor conditions
  • Understanding the environmental factors affecting outdoor first aid
  • Roles and responsibilities of an outdoor first aider
  • Providing emergency shelter and thermal insulation
  • CPR and managing an unresponsive casualty (breathing and non-breathing)
  • Managing choking, severe shock, and secondary surveys
  • Assessing and treating anaphylaxis and sudden poisoning
  • Controlling external bleeding and managing minor injuries
  • First aid for burns, scalds, and eye injuries
  • Assessing and treating suspected head, spinal, pelvic, and chest injuries
  • Managing injuries to bones, muscles, and joints
  • Identifying and treating heat and cold-related illnesses (hypothermia, heat exhaustion)
  • Providing first aid for suspected major medical emergencies in remote locations
